How to type here

  • Type with English letters on any keyboard — “namaste” turns into Nepali when you hit space — or tap the keys below.
  • Use the small hints above each key as a guide to the layout positions.
  • Copy the result into WhatsApp, Gmail, Word, Google Docs, or anywhere else.

WorldTyping’s free Nepali keyboard lets you write Nepali online by tapping Devanagari letters on screen or typing them phonetically with English letters — no installation, no account, and nothing leaves your browser.

The Nepali input route with no dependencies

Worth stating plainly, because it is the practical reason to be here. Nepali speech recognition is among the thinnest supported — dictation has a high error rate and some browsers decline it entirely.

This keyboard has no such dependency. It runs in your browser, behaves identically on every device, needs no speech service and no account. If you need Nepali text and you need it to work, this is the route that always does.

Vowels, matras, and where words go wrong

Devanagari writes a vowel one way at the start of a syllable and another when it attaches to a consonant, and the keyboard splits them into two rows. The independent vowels are for word- and syllable-initial positions; the matras attach to a consonant already on screen — क then ा gives का.

Tap an independent vowel after a consonant and you get two letters rather than one syllable. That is the single most common error on any Indic keyboard and the one worth learning first.

Tap, type, or both

Phonetic typing is on by default — kasto cha gives कस्तो छ. The keys exist for what the rules cannot reach: ळ is the clearest case, since Roman spelling cannot distinguish it from an ordinary ल.

Both modes write into the same box. Type the sentence, tap the letter, copy the result — and none of it leaves your browser.

Frequently asked questions

Why use the keyboard rather than dictation for Nepali?

Because it has no external dependency. Nepali speech recognition is thin and some browsers do not offer it at all, whereas this keyboard runs entirely in your browser and behaves the same everywhere. It also lets you choose the honorific register yourself rather than getting whichever one you happened to speak in.

When do I use अ and when ा?

The vowel row is for the start of a word or syllable; the matras row is for a vowel attaching to a consonant you already tapped. क then ा gives का. Tapping an independent vowel after a consonant gives two separate letters instead of one syllable.

Where is ळ?

In the consonant row. Phonetic typing will not produce it — type vel and you get वेल with an ordinary ल — so tapping is the only route to ळ.

Can I type instead of tapping?

Yes. Phonetic typing is on by default: type dhanyabaad and you get धन्यबाद as you go. Both modes write into the same box, so you can type the sentence and tap the one letter the rules missed.

Can I paste the Nepali text into WhatsApp or Word?

Yes. It is standard Unicode Devanagari, so it pastes into WhatsApp, Word, Google Docs, Gmail or a web form with no font to install.
