For Nepali, typing is the dependable route
This is the practical reason to be on this page rather than the dictation one. Nepali has comparatively little speech-recognition support behind it — a higher error rate, and browsers that will not offer it at all.
Transliteration has none of those dependencies. It runs in your browser, the same way on every device, with no speech service in the path. If you need Nepali text and you need it to work, dictation is worth trying and this is worth relying on.
The register is yours to choose
Nepali encodes who you are addressing in the verb ending, and तिमी, तपाईं and हजुर are not interchangeable.
Typing it out means you pick. Dictation transcribes the register you happen to be speaking in, which is the most common reason dictated Nepali needs rewriting rather than correcting. Here that problem does not arise.
Double the long vowels
dhanyabaad gives धन्यबाद; kasto cha gives कस्तो छ. Common words are stored as exact spellings and everything else is converted by rule, where vowel length is the one thing the rules cannot infer.
For a letter the rules will not produce, the Nepali keyboard has the full set on screen.
Frequently asked questions
Is typing more reliable than dictating for Nepali?
Yes, noticeably. Nepali has thin speech-recognition support and some browsers do not offer it at all, whereas this tool runs entirely in your browser with no speech service involved. It behaves the same everywhere, online or on a slow connection.
How do I write long vowels?
Double them — aa, ee, oo. dhanyabaad gives धन्यबाद. Roman spelling records vowel length nowhere else, so doubling is the single habit that most improves the output.
Will it get the honorific verb forms right?
It writes exactly what you type. Nepali marks register in the verb — तिमी, तपाईं, हजुर take different endings — and that choice is yours here rather than something guessed from your tone of voice. That is an advantage over dictation, where the register you spoke in is the one you get.
Is this a translator?
No. It is transliteration — it converts sounds into Devanagari. Type Nepali phonetically and you get Nepali; type English and you get English spelled in Devanagari letters.
