Russian Typing Test

The engine behind this test segments text by grapheme cluster rather than by Unicode code point, which matters enormously for Bengali or Tamil, where a consonant and its vowel sign are one character written as several code points.

For Russian it makes almost no difference. Cyrillic is essentially one code point per character, so the careful counting arrives at the same number a naive count would. It is worth saying plainly rather than dressing it up: the reason to use this test is not how it counts.

The result does not stop at a single accuracy figure. It records which characters you got wrong and how often, so you finish a run knowing that ь and й are where your time goes — not merely that you were 94% accurate.

That is the difference between a score and a practice tool. For Russian the usual culprits are the soft sign, the ы / и pair, and the letters whose ЙЦУКЕН positions sit under the weakest fingers.

Gross WPM is characters divided by five, per minute. Net WPM subtracts errors per minute, clamped at zero. Everything is computed at the end from a log of what you actually produced, so retyping is recorded honestly rather than quietly improving your number.
