Tamil has the widest gap of any script here between what a reader counts and what a computer counts by default.

A test that measured by code point would report a speed roughly twice the truth on some words and less on others, which makes runs incomparable. This one segments by grapheme cluster, so a consonant with its vowel sign — or its pulli — is one character, exactly as you read it.
How the score is built
Gross WPM is characters divided by five, per minute. Net WPM subtracts errors per minute, clamped at zero. Accuracy is correct characters over everything typed.
Everything is computed at the end from a log of what you actually produced, not accumulated live, so corrections are recorded honestly. The result also shows which characters you missed most, which is the part worth acting on — for Tamil that is usually the three l letters and the three n letters.
Choosing a run
One, three or five minutes. Common words to warm up, paragraphs for something closer to writing. Finishing early is fine and scored against the time you spent.

Frequently asked questions
Why does my character count look lower than I expected?
Because it is counting Tamil characters rather than Unicode code points. நான் is two characters to a reader and four code points to a computer. Counting code points would double your apparent speed on some words and wreck the comparison between one run and the next.
Does the pulli count separately?
No. The pulli belongs to the consonant it sits on, so ன் is one character. The same goes for every vowel sign — கா is one, not two.
What do gross and net WPM mean?
Gross WPM is characters typed divided by five, per minute. Net WPM subtracts errors per minute and never goes below zero. Accuracy is correct characters as a share of everything typed.
How long is the test?
One, three or five minutes, and you can finish early — the score uses the time you actually spent. Two corpora are available: common words, and paragraphs closer to real writing.
Are my results saved anywhere?
In your browser only. Nothing is uploaded, there is no account, and clearing your browser data clears them.
