Urdu Typing Test

Urdu is traditionally set in nastaliq, where each word cascades down from right to left. It looks quite unlike naskh Arabic, and it is easy to assume a typing test would have to treat it specially.

It does not. Nastaliq is a font — the characters underneath are the same Unicode either way. The test scores the characters you typed, so the same run would score identically on a device rendering the text in naskh. What changes is only what you see.

The per-character breakdown at the end of a run is more useful than the accuracy figure, and for Urdu it almost always points at the same places: the retroflexes ٹ ڈ ڑ, and ھ in the aspirate digraphs.

Those are precisely the letters Urdu has that Arabic and Persian do not, so they are the ones least reinforced by habit if you have typed either. Worth watching rather than reading past.

Gross WPM is characters divided by five, per minute. Net WPM subtracts errors per minute, clamped at zero. Accuracy is correct characters over everything typed, computed at the end from a log of what you actually produced rather than accumulated live.
