Kruti Dev keyboard layout
A print-friendly reference for the Kruti Dev 010 / Remington Gail Hindi layout. Use it to learn the common keys for typing exams, older office workflows, and legacy Hindi documents that still depend on Kruti Dev.
What this page is for
Kruti Dev is not a modern Hindi input method for everyday writing. It is mainly useful when you must match an older Remington-style workflow or a typing exam requirement. For normal Hindi writing, use Unicode tools instead.

Important typing rules
- The short-i matra ि is typed with
fbefore the consonant it belongs to. - Reph र् is commonly entered with
Zafter the cluster, not before it. - Half letters depend on the halant
~and conjunct patterns, so single-key charts are only the starting point. - If you need sharable Hindi text for websites, email, or phones, convert the final Kruti Dev text to Unicode.
Frequently asked questions
Is Kruti Dev the same thing as Mangal?
No. Kruti Dev is a legacy non-Unicode font and Mangal is a Unicode Devanagari font. If you need modern Hindi text for the web, email, phones, or Google Docs, convert Kruti Dev text to Unicode.
Who still uses the Kruti Dev keyboard layout?
Mostly Hindi typing exam candidates, court and government-office staff, and print/DTP workflows that still rely on the Remington Gail layout or older Kruti Dev documents.
Why does the ि matra feel backwards in Kruti Dev typing?
Because Kruti Dev stores the short-i matra before its base consonant. In practice you type the key for ि first, then the consonant, and the rendered Hindi appears in the correct visual order.
Can I use this layout on paper as a printout?
Yes. This page is designed to work as a print-friendly reference sheet. Open it and use your browser print dialog to print or save as PDF.
