Hindi Typing Test
Exam Mode — corrections disabled
Backspace, delete, arrow keys, copy, paste and undo are disabled, as they are in the real exam. Switch to Practice Mode while you are still learning the layout.
Practise the way the exam actually works — backspace disabled, just like the real test.
Why corrections are disabled here
Every one of these exams takes the backspace key away from you. SSC also disables Delete, the arrow keys, cut, copy, paste, undo and redo. CPCT disables backspace. Once a character is typed, it stays typed.
Most free practice tools allow backspace anyway, which means candidates spend months training a correction reflex the real exam punishes. They arrive on the day with a habit they cannot use, and their net speed collapses. This test disables the same keys the exam does, so what you practise is what you sit.
Speed follows accuracy, never the reverse. Because you cannot go back, a single mistyped character early in a word can cost the whole word — and in SSC’s scoring, an omitted word costs exactly as much as one typed completely wrong.
Exactly which keys are disabled varies between exams and between notification cycles. The lists above reflect the notifications we have seen, not a guarantee — confirm against the notification for the exam and year you are sitting.
Choosing a keyboard layout
Inscript is the Unicode standard Devanagari layout, used with the Mangal font, and it is accepted by the widest range of exams. Remington Gail mimics the old mechanical Hindi typewriter and is required by several state exams including CPCT. Kruti Dev 010 is a legacy font-hack system still specified by some recruitments.
They share almost nothing, so months spent on the wrong one are months wasted. Confirm from your official notification before you start, print a layout sheet and keep it beside the keyboard. If you have existing documents in Kruti Dev, the Kruti Dev to Unicode converter will bring them across.
Frequently asked questions
Why does this test disable backspace?
Because the real exams do. SSC disables backspace, delete, arrow keys, cut, copy, paste, undo and redo; CPCT disables backspace. Practising with corrections available trains a reflex you cannot use on the day, and most free practice tools allow it. You can switch to Practice Mode while you are still learning the layout.
Which exam page should I use?
Pick the one you are sitting — each sets the right duration, keyboard layout and scoring model by default. If you are just building general Hindi typing speed, start with the Mangal font page.
Is this free?
Yes, and there is no login. Your scores are stored in your own browser, not on a server.
Does my progress get saved?
Your last few hundred runs are kept in your browser's local storage, so the chart and the daily streak survive between visits. Clearing your browser data clears them.
