How the conversion works
The engine reads your Roman spelling phonetically: consonant pairs like kh, gh, ch, th, bh, sh map to their Devanagari letters, vowels like aa, ee, ai, au become the matching matras, and consonant clusters get conjunct forms where Hindi spelling expects them (so kya becomes क्या but karna stays करना). Common words with irregular spellings — मैं, नहीं, भारत — are recognized directly.

What is transliteration?
Transliteration converts text from one script to another while keeping the same words and sounds. "namaste" → नमस्ते is transliteration; translating the meaning into another language is not. This tool converts Roman-script Hindi into Devanagari.
What is the difference between transliteration and translation?
Transliteration changes the script, translation changes the language. Typing "dhanyavad" here gives धन्यवाद (same word, new script). It will not translate the English word "thanks" into Hindi.
