How to type here

  • Type with English letters on any keyboard — “namaskar” turns into Marathi when you hit space — or tap the keys below.
  • Use the small hints above each key as a guide to the layout positions.
  • Copy the result into WhatsApp, Gmail, Word, Google Docs, or anywhere else.

WorldTyping’s free Marathi keyboard lets you write Marathi online by tapping Devanagari letters on screen or typing them phonetically with English letters — no installation, no account, and nothing leaves your browser.

Vowels and vowel signs are different rows for a reason

This is the one thing to understand before anything else. Devanagari writes a vowel two ways depending on where it sits, and the keyboard gives each its own row.

Independent vowels against vowel signs
RowUse it
Vowels (स्वर)at the start of a word or syllable — अरे
Matras (मात्राएँ)after a consonant — क then ा gives का

Tap an independent vowel after a consonant and you get two separate letters rather than one syllable. It is the most common mistake on an Indic keyboard, and once you have the distinction it stops happening.

The letters only this keyboard can give you

ळ is a Marathi letter Hindi does not have, and it appears in ordinary words — वेळ, फळ, कोल्हापूर. Phonetic typing will not produce it: vel gives वेल with an ordinary ल, because Roman spelling has no way to tell the two apart.

The same goes for the chandra vowels ॲ and ऑ, which Marathi uses for English loanwords like ऑफिस. All three are tap-only, and all three are on this keyboard.

Tap, type, or both

Phonetic typing is on by default, so you can write namaskar and watch नमस्कार appear. Both modes write into the same box, which is the useful arrangement: type the sentence, then tap the one letter the rules could not give you.

Everything happens in your browser and your draft is kept locally between visits. Nothing is sent to our servers.

Frequently asked questions

When do I use अ and when do I use ा?

The Vowels row holds independent vowels, for the start of a word or syllable — अरे begins with अ. The Matras row holds the vowel signs that attach to a consonant you have already tapped: क then ा gives का. Tapping the independent vowel after a consonant gives you two separate letters instead of one syllable, which is the most common mistake on any Indic keyboard.

Where is ळ?

In the consonant row, at the end. It is worth knowing that phonetic typing will not produce it — type vel and you get वेल with an ordinary ल — so for ळ the keyboard is the only route.

How do I write English loanwords like ऑफिस?

The chandra vowels ॲ and ऑ are in the vowel row, and their matras ॅ and ॉ in the matras row. Marathi uses them for borrowed words, and like ळ they are tap-only.

Can I just type instead of tapping?

Yes. Phonetic typing is on by default: type namaskar and you get नमस्कार as you go. The keys are there for the letters phonetic typing cannot reach and for when you want an exact character.

Can I paste the Marathi text into WhatsApp or Word?

Yes. It is standard Unicode Devanagari, so it pastes into WhatsApp, Word, Google Docs, Gmail or a web form with no font to install.
