Write fast, then place the letters by hand

Type Marathi words the way they sound in the left box and Devanagari appears on the right — namaskar gives नमस्कार. That gets you most of a passage quickly.

Two things it will not give you: ळ, and the chandra vowels ॲ and ऑ used for English loanwords. Roman spelling cannot distinguish ळ from an ordinary ल, so vel gives वेल and always will.

The workflow that actually works: draft the whole thing here, then open the Marathi keyboard and place those characters. Fixing four letters at the end beats fighting them one at a time.

Dictation is in the box, with one caveat

In Chrome and Edge a microphone appears in the input area, so you can speak instead of typing — on a browser without speech recognition the button is simply not there. For Marathi the caveat is worth carrying with you: recognition drifts toward Hindi, because the two languages share Devanagari and Hindi has far more training data.

What comes back is well-formed Devanagari with Hindi grammar — आहे arriving as है. Nothing looks misspelled, which is why it slips through. Read the verb endings. The Marathi voice typing page goes into it properly.

Counting, copying, and getting it out

Under the output box you get a live count — words first, then total characters — which is what you want for an assignment or a post with a limit.

What is the difference between this and the English to Marathi typing page?

How do I get ळ and the chandra vowels?

Tap them on the Marathi keyboard. Neither typing nor dictation produces them: type vel and you get वेल with an ordinary ल. The practical workflow is to write the whole passage here, then open the keyboard and place those characters.

Can I dictate instead of typing?
