Marathi Typing Test

Devanagari is where most people first meet the counting problem. मी is one character to read and two Unicode code points to a computer: म plus the matra ी.

A test that measured with string length would count that as two, inflate your character total on vowel-heavy passages, and blame you for errors on marks you typed correctly. This one segments by grapheme cluster, so a consonant with its matra is one character and a conjunct counts once rather than once per part.

Gross WPM is characters divided by five, per minute. Net WPM subtracts errors per minute, clamped at zero. Accuracy is correct characters over everything typed. Everything is computed at the end from a log of what you actually produced, so backspacing and retyping are recorded honestly rather than quietly improving your number.

The result also breaks errors down per character, which tells you where the time is going rather than only how much of it.

One, three or five minutes; common words to warm up, paragraphs for something closer to real writing. Finishing early is fine and scored against the time you spent. Results are kept in your browser so you can watch the number move.

On a phone, a touchscreen will not build typing speed. The Marathi keyboard drills teach where each letter sits instead, which is the part that transfers to a real keyboard.
