Scored by grapheme cluster, so a letter and its marks count as the one character you actually typed. Use your own Ukrainian keyboard or our on-screen keyboard.

WorldTyping’s free Ukrainian typing test measures your speed and accuracy in Cyrillic, scoring the apostrophe as the letter-equivalent character it is — no installation, no account, and nothing leaves your browser.

The apostrophe counts

Ukrainian writes an apostrophe inside words — з’їсти, м’ясо, п’ять — where it marks that the preceding consonant stays hard. It is orthography, not punctuation, and a word without it is misspelled.

So the test scores it like any letter. Skip it and you accrue errors, which is the correct outcome: it is the single character Ukrainian writers most often leave out, and the one dictation drops almost every time.

What the engine does and does not buy you here

The scoring engine segments by grapheme cluster rather than Unicode code point. For Bengali or Tamil that is the difference between a meaningful score and a meaningless one. For Ukrainian it changes almost nothing, since Cyrillic is essentially one code point per character.

What it does buy you is the per-character error breakdown. Finishing a run knowing that і, ї and ґ are where your accuracy went is more useful than a single percentage — those four letters are exactly the ones that separate Ukrainian from Russian.

How the score is built, and choosing a run

Gross WPM is characters divided by five, per minute; net WPM subtracts errors per minute, clamped at zero; accuracy is correct over total. All computed at the end from a log of what you produced.

One, three or five minutes, common words or paragraphs, finishing early allowed. Results stay in your browser. On a phone the Ukrainian keyboard drills teach the layout, which is the part that transfers.

On a phone?

A touchscreen will not build typing speed, but it will teach you the layout. The Ukrainian keyboard drills practise where each Cyrillic letter sits, a few taps at a time.

Frequently asked questions

Is the apostrophe scored?

Yes, like any other character. In Ukrainian the apostrophe is part of the orthography — з’їсти, м’ясо — not punctuation you can skip, so a run that omits it is counted as having errors. That is deliberate: it is the character most often left out.

Does grapheme counting matter for Ukrainian?

Barely. Cyrillic is essentially one code point per character, so careful segmentation lands on the same number a naive count would. It matters hugely for Bengali or Tamil; here the value of the test is elsewhere.

What is the value, then?

Text that is Ukrainian rather than translated filler, and a per-character error breakdown — so you learn that і, ї and ґ are where your accuracy goes, rather than only that it was 93%.

What do gross and net WPM mean?

Gross WPM is characters typed divided by five, per minute. Net WPM subtracts errors per minute and never goes below zero. Accuracy is correct characters over everything typed.

Are my results saved anywhere?

In your browser only. Nothing is uploaded and there is no account.
