The four conventions worth knowing
Most of Russian transliteration is what you would guess. These four are the ones that are worth learning deliberately, because without them a word comes out wrong in a way that is hard to diagnose.

shch and sch both give щ, so shchi gives щи.
Why word-initial e becomes э
In Russian romanisation a word starting with e almost always represents э — eto, ekran, etazh. The tool applies that rule at the start of a word only, which is why ye mid-word still gives е.
Common words that genuinely begin with е — yesli gives если — are stored as exceptions, so the rule does not damage them.
Capitals are preserved, and the rest is rules
Capitalisation is mirrored: Privet gives Привет, MIR gives МИР. Useful for names and headings, and rarer in tools of this kind than you might expect.
Beyond a list of common words the engine is rule-based, so it will not infer a soft sign or a stress you did not type. For anything it will not give you, the Russian keyboard has the full ЙЦУКЕН layout on screen.

Common problems
- A word comes out with the wrong spelling — try typing it phonetically a different way, or edit the output directly.
- Digraphs like sh, ch, zh, and shch need to be typed as a unit — splitting them can produce the wrong letter.
- Less common words may fall back to basic letter rules instead of the dictionary, which is not always exact.

Frequently asked questions
How do I type the soft sign ь?
Type an apostrophe. tsar' gives царь and den' gives день. It is the one piece of punctuation the tool reads as a letter, and without it those words come out missing their ending.
Why does a word starting with e give э?
Because that is the Russian convention — eto gives это and ekran gives экран. Common words that genuinely start with е, like если, are stored as exceptions and come out correctly anyway.
How do I get ы and й?
y gives ы and j gives й. y is reserved for ы because the two-letter combinations ya, ye, yo and yu are matched first, so it is free to serve as the single-letter fallback.
Does it keep my capitals?
Yes. Privet gives Привет and MIR gives МИР — capitalisation is mirrored from what you typed, including all-caps.
Can I paste the Cyrillic text into Word or Telegram?
