How to type here

  • Type with English letters on any keyboard — “kem chho” turns into Gujarati when you hit space — or tap the keys below.
  • Copy the result into WhatsApp, Gmail, Word, Google Docs, or anywhere else.

WorldTyping’s free Gujarati keyboard lets you write Gujarati online by tapping letters on screen or typing them phonetically with English letters — no installation, no account, and nothing leaves your browser.

The only place you can put an anusvara

Of the three ways to write Gujarati on this site, this is the only one that can produce ં.

Phonetic typing does not: hun gives હુન, unnasalised. Dictation drops it too, because the nasalisation is barely audible. The anusvara changes the word in writing, so the working habit is to type the sentence phonetically and then tap the mark where it belongs — it is in the vowel-signs row, alongside ઁ.

Vowels and vowel signs

Gujarati writes a vowel one way at the start of a syllable and another when it attaches to a consonant. The vowels row covers the first case; the vowel-signs row the second — ક then ા gives કા.

Tapping an independent vowel after a consonant produces two letters rather than one syllable. It is the usual first mistake and the one worth getting past quickly.

No headline, so read a little more slowly

Gujarati is written without the shirorekha, the line that runs across the top of Devanagari words. That is a script fact rather than a keyboard one, but it affects proofreading: without the line binding a word together, a wrong letter in the middle is less visually obvious than the same error would be in Hindi.

ળ is in the consonant row and, like the anusvara, cannot be reached any other way. Everything runs in your browser and your draft is kept locally.

Frequently asked questions

Where is the anusvara ં?

In the vowel-signs row. It matters that it is here, because neither of the other routes produces it: type hun phonetically and you get હુન without the nasalisation, and dictation drops it too. If a word needs an anusvara, this keyboard is the only place to put one.

When do I use અ and when ા?

The vowels row is for the start of a word or syllable; the vowel-signs row attaches to a consonant already on screen. ક then ા gives કા. Tapping an independent vowel after a consonant gives two separate letters instead of one syllable.

Where is ળ?

In the consonant row. Like the anusvara it is tap-only — Roman spelling gives the rules no way to distinguish it from an ordinary લ.

Can I type instead of tapping?

Yes. Phonetic typing is on by default: kem chho gives કેમ છો as you go. The keys are for the marks and letters the rules cannot reach.

Can I paste the Gujarati text into WhatsApp or Word?

Yes. It is standard Unicode Gujarati, so it pastes into WhatsApp, Word, Google Docs, Gmail or a web form with no font to install.
