Bindi, tippi and addak are tap-only
Gurmukhi marks nasalisation with ਂ and ੰ, and gemination with the addak ੱ. All three are in the vowel-signs row here, and all three are worth knowing about because the other route cannot produce them.
Phonetic typing gets changa right — ਚੰਗਾ — only because that word is on its stored list. A variant spelling falls through to the rules and gives ਚਨ੍ਗਾ, with the nasal spelled out as a full consonant. So the dependable pattern is: type the word, then tap the mark.
The tone letters
Punjabi carries lexical tone, unusually for an Indo-Aryan language, and there are no tone marks — the tone rides on ਘ ਝ ਢ ਧ ਭ. Choosing between ਗ and ਘ is choosing between two words, not two spellings of one.
They are in the consonant row, and phonetic typing reaches them too by adding an h. Either route works; what does not work is leaving the h out.
Vowels and vowel signs
The vowels row is for the start of a word or syllable; the vowel-signs row attaches to a consonant already on screen — ਕ then ਾ gives ਕਾ. Tapping an independent vowel after a consonant gives two letters rather than one syllable.

Frequently asked questions
Where are the bindi and tippi?
In the vowel-signs row, along with the addak. They matter because phonetic typing does not produce them: changa works only because it is a stored word, while a variant spelling gives ਚਨ੍ਗਾ with the nasal written out as a full consonant. For nasalisation you want, tapping is the reliable route.
Is this Gurmukhi or Shahmukhi?
Gurmukhi, the script used in Indian Punjab. Punjabi in Pakistan is written in Shahmukhi, a Perso-Arabic script, and this keyboard does not produce it.
How do I type the tone letters?
ਘ, ਝ, ਢ, ਧ and ਭ are in the consonant row. Punjabi is tonal and the tone rides on those letters rather than on any mark, so choosing the right one is choosing the right word. Typing them phonetically works too — add an h.
