English to Hebrew Typing
Basic phonetic engine — the common-word dictionary for this language is growing. Spell tricky words out phonetically (long vowels written double).
Autosaved in your browser — nothing is uploaded or stored on our servers. Voice recognition is handled by your browser/device provider; WorldTyping never receives your audio.
WorldTyping’s free English to Hebrew typing tool converts Hebrew words written in English letters into Hebrew script as you type — no installation, no account, and nothing leaves your browser.
How to type in Hebrew
- Type Hebrew words phonetically in the left box using English letters — for example shalom.
- The Hebrew text appears instantly in the right box: שלום.
- Copy it, share it, download it, or print it.
Examples
| You type | You get |
|---|---|
| shalom | שלום |
| toda | תודה |
| boker tov | בוקר טוב |
| chaver | חבר |
The five final forms are handled for you
Five Hebrew consonants take a different shape at the end of a word: כ becomes ך, מ becomes ם, and likewise ן, ף and ץ. They are separate characters, not a font effect.
The tool applies them after converting the word. erets gives ארץ, kaf gives כף, ben gives בן. On the Hebrew keyboard those five have their own keys and choosing them is your job; here it is not.
Words starting with a vowel get their carrier
Hebrew cannot open a word with a bare vowel — it needs a letter to carry it, usually alef. Roman spelling gives no hint that this is required, so the tool inserts it when a word you type begins with a vowel.
It is a small thing that removes a whole category of malformed output, and it is why a- and e-initial words come out looking like real Hebrew rather than a fragment.
Unvocalised, as Hebrew normally is
What you get is Hebrew without nikkud. That is not a limitation for ordinary writing — newspapers, email, signs and messages are all unvocalised — and it is what you want almost every time.
For teaching materials, poetry or liturgical text you will need the points, and the tool does not produce them at any setting. Add them afterwards from the Hebrew keyboard, which has a dedicated nikkud row. Beyond a list of common words the engine is rule-based, so unusual words are approximations worth checking.

Common problems
- Hebrew script usually drops short vowels, so the output can look different from what you typed — this is normal Hebrew spelling, not an error.
- A word comes out with the wrong spelling — try a different phonetic spelling, or fix it directly with the on-screen keyboard.
- This is a basic phonetic helper, not a translator or spell-checker, so uncommon words are not guaranteed to be correct — review your text before using it.
Copy & paste
The output is standard Unicode Hebrew and pastes correctly into WhatsApp, Gmail, or Word — proofread it first since spelling is approximate.
On mobile
Works in your phone's browser with no app needed; handy for quick phrases, but review anything formal before sending since this is a basic typing helper.
Frequently asked questions
Does it use the final letter forms automatically?
Yes. Type erets and you get ארץ with the final tsadi; type kaf and you get כף; type ben and you get בן. Hebrew changes five consonants at the end of a word, and forgetting them is the single most common mistake when typing Hebrew by hand. Here it is done for you.
What happens to a word that starts with a vowel?
It gets an alef carrier automatically. Hebrew cannot begin a word with a bare vowel mark, so the tool supplies the carrier letter without being asked.
Can I get nikkud?
No. The tool produces unvocalised Hebrew, which is how Hebrew is normally written. If you need the vowel points for teaching or liturgical text, add them from the Hebrew keyboard, which has a dedicated nikkud row.
Is this a translator?
No. It is transliteration — it converts sounds into Hebrew letters. Type Hebrew phonetically and you get Hebrew; type English and you get English spelled in Hebrew letters.
Will the right-to-left text paste correctly?
Yes. It is standard Unicode Hebrew and the direction is carried by the characters, so it survives copying into Word, Google Docs, Gmail, WhatsApp or a web form.
