CPCT Hindi Typing Test
Exam Mode — corrections disabled
Backspace, delete, arrow keys, copy, paste and undo are disabled, as they are in the real exam. Switch to Practice Mode while you are still learning the layout.
15-minute practice with CPCT-accurate scoring and backspace disabled.
The CPCT typing test format
MP CPCT (Computer Proficiency Certification Test) includes a typing component of 15 minutes. Hindi typing uses the Remington Gail keyboard layout with the Mangal font — note that this is Remington, not Inscript, which is the single most common thing candidates get wrong when choosing what to practise.
Backspace is disabled. You cannot correct a mistake once it is typed.
How CPCT net speed is calculated
Net WPM = (Total characters ÷ 5 − Errors) ÷ 15
Every character you type counts toward gross speed, but every error is subtracted. This is why accuracy dominates: because you cannot backspace, a single mistyped character early in a word can cost you the whole word.
Practical target: aim for a gross speed comfortably above the required net speed, so that your errors still leave you clear of the cutoff.
TODO — required net WPM not yet published
The required net WPM for CPCT Hindi and English is deliberately not stated on this page. Widely-circulated sources disagree with each other, and rather than repeat any of their figures — even to compare them — this test reports your net speed and leaves the pass mark to your notification.
The figure will be added, with its notification year, once it has been confirmed against the official MAPIT / CPCT notification. If you have the current notification to hand and want to help, use the feedback link at the foot of this page.
Remington Gail vs Inscript — choose correctly
Remington Gail mirrors the mechanical Hindi typewriter layout. It is older, and still widely required by state exams including CPCT.
Inscript is the Unicode standard and is what SSC accepts alongside Kruti Dev and Remington.
They share almost nothing. Months spent on the wrong one are months wasted. Confirm from your official notification before you start.
How to prepare
Confirm your layout — Remington Gail for CPCT Hindi — and stick to it. Print the layout sheet and keep it beside the keyboard.
Accuracy first: 95% or better before you look at the clock. Then full 15-minute runs with backspace disabled, because stamina is a real factor at that length.
Practise on a plain external keyboard, not a laptop chiclet or a mechanical with an unusual layout — exam centre keyboards are basic and often worn.
Frequently asked questions
Is CPCT Hindi typing in Mangal or Kruti Dev?
Mangal font, Remington Gail layout. Kruti Dev is a separate legacy system — if you have documents in it, use the Kruti Dev to Unicode converter linked from this page.
Can I use backspace in the CPCT typing test?
No. It is disabled, which is why this practice test disables it by default.
How long is the test?
15 minutes.
What net WPM do I need to pass CPCT?
We are not publishing a figure until it has been confirmed against the current official notification. Sources disagree, and a wrong cutoff on an exam page is worse than no cutoff. Check your own notification, and treat any site quoting a number without citing its year with caution.
Does the test allow a keyboard of my choice at the centre?
No — you use the centre's machine. Practise on an ordinary, slightly worn keyboard rather than a premium mechanical one, so the exam-day feel isn't a shock.
