Telugu Voice Typing
Autosaved in your browser — nothing is uploaded or stored on our servers. Voice recognition is handled by your browser and never stored by us.
WorldTyping’s free Telugu voice typing lets you speak Telugu and get Telugu script in your browser using your device’s own speech recognition — no installation, no account, and no audio ever reaching our servers.
Where the spaces go is the hard part
Telugu is agglutinative: grammatical information piles onto the end of a word, so a single written word can carry what English would spread across a short phrase. Spoken, those pieces run together in one breath. The recogniser has to decide where one word stops and the next begins, and it is guessing.
The result is that long forms often come back broken into pieces and short words often come back fused. That is the single most common thing you will fix in dictated Telugu — and it is a spacing edit, not a spelling one, which makes it quick once you know to look for it.
Short and long vowels change the word
ఇ against ఈ, ఉ against ఊ, ఎ against ఏ — these are not shades of the same sound, they are different words. Fast speech compresses the long ones and the recogniser writes the short one.
Speaking deliberately pays off here more than anywhere else in Telugu dictation. Length is the distinction most degraded by speed.
The aspirated consonants to check
ఖ ఘ ఛ ఝ ఠ ఢ థ ధ ఫ భ are all distinguished from their plain counterparts by a puff of breath, and that puff is the first thing lost in ordinary speech. Expect ఖ to arrive as క and ఘ as గ often enough to be worth a specific pass.
Scanning for those letters is faster than rereading everything, because the errors sit there rather than spreading through the text.
Where the audio goes
The microphone is your browser’s. On Chrome and Edge the audio is sent to the browser vendor’s speech service and text comes back; WorldTyping is never in that path and never receives audio. The text stays in your browser, saved locally so a reload does not lose your draft.
That is also why dictation needs an internet connection, and why a browser without Telugu speech support will not respond to the button.
Frequently asked questions
Why are words joined together or split in the wrong places?
Because Telugu joins words in writing that are spoken as one continuous phrase, and the recogniser has to guess where the boundaries fall. Long agglutinated forms often come back split into pieces, and short words often come back fused. It is the most common thing you will fix, and it is a spacing edit rather than a spelling one.
Does it distinguish short and long vowels?
Mostly, but this is where the errors concentrate. The pairs ఇ/ఈ, ఉ/ఊ and ఎ/ఏ change meaning, and fast speech compresses them. Slowing down helps more here than anywhere else in Telugu dictation.
What about aspirated consonants like ఖ, ఘ and ఛ?
These are frequently returned as their unaspirated counterparts — ఖ as క, ఘ as గ — because the extra breath is easy to miss. Worth a targeted proofread, since the errors cluster on these letters rather than spreading evenly.
Is my voice recorded or sent to WorldTyping?
No. Recognition is handled by your browser, and on Chrome and Edge the audio goes to the browser vendor’s speech service. WorldTyping never receives audio — only the text that comes back, which stays in your browser.
Which browsers support Telugu dictation?
Chrome and Edge on desktop and Android, with an internet connection. Safari on iOS and macOS varies by version and Telugu is not guaranteed there. If the microphone button does nothing, the browser is declining rather than the page failing.
Can I paste the Telugu text into WhatsApp or Word?
Yes. It is standard Unicode Telugu, so it pastes into WhatsApp, Word, Google Docs, Gmail or a web form with no font to install.
