Telugu Typing Test

Telugu builds a syllable from a consonant plus vowel signs, and often a subscript consonant beneath it. A computer sees several code points; a reader sees one character.

This test segments by grapheme cluster and normalises to NFC first, so the count matches what you read. A test that used string length would inflate your speed on syllable-heavy passages and deflate it elsewhere.

Gross WPM is characters divided by five, per minute. Net WPM subtracts errors per minute, clamped at zero. Accuracy is correct characters over everything typed. All three come from a log of what you produced, computed at the end rather than accumulated live.

The result breaks errors down per character. For Telugu that usually points at the aspirated series and at long against short vowels, which is more actionable than a single accuracy figure.

One, three or five minutes; common words or paragraphs. Finishing early is allowed and scored honestly against the time spent, and results are kept in your browser so you can watch progress.

On a phone the Telugu keyboard drills are the better use of your time — a touchscreen will not build speed, but it will teach where the letters are.
