WorldTyping’s free Kannada typing workspace lets you write Kannada in your browser by typing with English letters or dictating, then count, copy, download or share the result — no installation, no account, and nothing leaves your browser.

How to type in Kannada

  1. Type Kannada words phonetically in the left box using English letters — for example namaskara.
  2. The Kannada script text appears instantly in the right box: ನಮಸ್ಕಾರ.
  3. Copy it, share it, download it, or print it.

Examples

The stacking happens for you

Kannada writes consonant clusters by hanging the second consonant beneath the first — the ottakshara. Reproducing that on a keyboard is the part most people give up on.

Typing here handles it. Write kannada and you get ಕನ್ನಡ with the doubled n already subscripted; namaskara gives ನಮಸ್ಕಾರ. There is no separate mode or key sequence — you type the letters in order and the stacking follows.

Two things to do by hand

Long vowels. ಏ and ಓ are separate vowels from their short counterparts and change meaning. Double them as you type — ee, oo — because Roman spelling records length nowhere else.

ಳ. An everyday Kannada letter that typing cannot produce: haLLi gives ಹಲ್ಲಿ with an ordinary ಲ. It is on the Kannada keyboard, so draft the passage here and place it there.

Counting, copying, and getting it out

A live count sits under the output — words, then total characters. The action bar copies the Kannada text, and More gives you a .txt download, print, and sharing to WhatsApp, Telegram or email.

On a phone the output is pinned to a strip at the bottom of the screen with its own copy button. Your draft autosaves in your browser; nothing is uploaded.

Frequently asked questions

Does it build the ottakshara for me?

Yes, automatically. Type kannada and you get ಕನ್ನಡ with the doubled n already stacked as a subscript. That is the part of writing Kannada that is hardest to do by hand, and typing handles it without a separate step.

Where is ಳ?

On the Kannada keyboard, in the consonant row. Typing will not produce it — haLLi gives ಹಲ್ಲಿ with an ordinary ಲ — so for words that need ಳ, draft here and tap the letter there.

How do I get the long ಏ and ಓ?

Double the vowel: ee and oo. Kannada distinguishes short and long e and o and the difference changes the word, so this is the habit worth forming while you draft.

Can I dictate?

In Chrome and Edge, yes — a microphone appears in the input area. It is worth knowing that the button only renders where the browser supports speech recognition, so on a browser without it you will simply not see one. Dictated Kannada comes back in the spoken register rather than the written one, so it is a good first draft and needs a pass before it is formal.

Is my text uploaded anywhere?

No. Conversion happens in your browser and your draft is autosaved locally. Nothing reaches our servers, and voice recognition is handled by your browser’s own provider.
