Assamese Keyboard Online
How to type here
- Type with English letters on any keyboard — “nomoskar” turns into Assamese when you hit space — or tap the keys below.
- Copy the result into WhatsApp, Gmail, Word, Google Docs, or anywhere else.
WorldTyping’s free Assamese keyboard lets you write Assamese online by tapping letters on screen or typing them phonetically with English letters — no installation, no account, and nothing leaves your browser.
ৰ and ৱ are what make this an Assamese keyboard
Assamese and Bengali share a script and differ in essentially two letters. Assamese writes ৰ where Bengali writes র, and ৱ where Bengali uses ব for the w sound.
Both are in the consonant row here, and phonetic typing produces them as well — nomoskar gives নমস্কাৰ. Either route gives you Assamese rather than Bengali, which is not something you can take for granted.
Why that is worth stating
Speech recognition for Assamese leans heavily on Bengali data, so dictated Assamese frequently comes back with র in place of ৰ — well-formed text in the neighbouring language, which is a harder error to notice than a misspelling.
Typing and tapping do not have that failure mode. If you have Assamese text from anywhere else, scanning for র is a quick way to check what you actually got.
Vowels and vowel signs
The vowels row is for the start of a word or syllable; the vowel-signs row attaches to a consonant already placed — ক then া gives কা. Tapping an independent vowel after a consonant gives two letters rather than one syllable.
The stored word list for Assamese is small, so more of your typing goes through the rules than it would in Bengali. The keys are there for the corrections. Everything runs in your browser.
Frequently asked questions
Does this keyboard have ৰ and ৱ, or the Bengali forms?
The Assamese ones. ৰ and ৱ are in the consonant row, and phonetic typing produces them too — nomoskar gives নমস্কাৰ. That is the difference between this and a Bengali keyboard, and it is worth checking any Assamese text you get from elsewhere for the same reason.
Why does dictated Assamese sometimes come back with র?
Because speech recognition for Assamese leans on Bengali data and drifts toward it. The two languages share a script and differ in essentially these two letters, so a text full of র is Bengali wearing Assamese clothes. Typing does not have that problem.
When do I use অ and when া?
The vowels row is for the start of a word or syllable; the vowel-signs row attaches to a consonant already on screen. ক then া gives কা. Tapping an independent vowel after a consonant gives two letters instead of one syllable.
Can I type instead of tapping?
Yes, phonetic typing is on by default. The stored word list for Assamese is small, so expect longer or rarer words to be approximations you may want to correct with the keys.
Can I paste the Assamese text into WhatsApp or Word?
Yes. It is standard Unicode, so it pastes into WhatsApp, Word, Google Docs, Gmail or a web form with no font to install.
