Steps

  1. Type a Tamil word by sound — for example, “vanakkam” gives வணக்கம்.
  2. Double a vowel for its long form (“a” vs “aa”) so the right vowel sign is used.
  3. Check the Tamil output as you type and adjust the spelling for tricky sounds.
  4. Copy the text and paste it wherever you need it.

Common problems

A short vowel appears where you wanted a long one.
Write the long vowel as a double letter — “aa”, “ii”, “uu”.
Tamil shows as boxes after pasting.
The destination app is missing a Tamil font. The Unicode text is correct — use a font like Latha or Noto Sans Tamil.

Frequently asked questions

Will the Tamil text work in Word and Google Docs?

Yes. The output is standard Unicode Tamil, so it pastes correctly into Word, Google Docs, email, and messaging apps.
